The

Studio

Studio Porto 2018 is an intense summer studio class offered to students of the 3rd year in the Department of Architecture in Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP).

It is structured as an encounter between 15 guest students from Jerusalem and a group of students from FAUP who have completed their fifth year. In the studio’s first phase the local students serve as the leaders of an urban research into a relevant urban challenge. In the next phases, the guest students will develop of a series of architectural intervention, while considering the urban condition as a primary backdrop. The studio is visited by the Porto Municipality department of planning and the proposals will be later presented to the City for consideration.

The studio is a laboratory intended is to cross the disciplines of urban research and architectural design: For the local students, it is a unique opportunity to clearly present their city’s urban condition, while for the guest students, it is a first encounter with a new city, a different school, and, at the same time, with the discipline of urban design.
