Day Trip to Picote Dam

As we started our trip with meeting up with the two amazing  architects Fatima Fernandes and Michele Cannata, we were honored to have them with us ,sharing  knowledge of the places we have been to.

After a 3 hours drive from Porto, we finally arrived to our first destination which is Miranda do Douro, where we went to visit the Miranda Dam. Looking at the exterior of the Dam, understanding how the river Douro that passes through it.

 

This unique dam does not have the electrical system inside of it, but it was built different than the other Dams, built inside of the mountain nest to the dam .As we entered the building, we went 80 meters underground, looking at the structure of it, and how each space functions.

A man-made cave, that is one of the 9 dams that produces electricity to entire country of Portugal.

After lunch we went to visit the residential housing of EDP , Fatima and Michele took part of this project to  renovate it .The small details in the interior of the building were mesmerizing, the small details they have added to the lightning , the furniture , and even the connection between the interior and exterior.

 

A place that is distant from the city center, where you enjoy the nature and the building itself. Afterthat we went to visit the chapel, then to our last destination which was the picot Dam.
